A Great “SEO for Small Business” Story

SEO for small businesses is never about beating Google.  The typical small business owner, for some reason, thinks he needs to spend thousands of dollars on SEO to get to page one of Google.  That’s not the case at all.  This story is a great example of how to win the “ SEO for small business ” game:

SEO for small business is like out running a lion.Two men come across a lion in while walking across the African plains.  Both of the stop and freeze in fear.  The lion has them in their sights and begins to stealthfully approach them.

The first man slowly removes his heavy hiking boots and pulls a pair of running shoes from his back pack and begins to put them on.

The second man says “There’s no way you’ll ever out run a lion!”

The first man smiles and says “I know. I just need to out run you.”

You don’t need to beat Google.  You just need to beat your competitors.

Many of your competitors aren’t doing much to optimize their website. A few may have hired specialists and spend thousands of dollars each month.  You need to realize, there are 20 open spots on page one of Google.  A business can only occupy 3 or 4 of those spots at most.  If two of your competitors are spending $2000 a month, and the next 10 aren’t spending anything, then you can probably get to the number 3 through 6 spots with just a few hundred dollars a month in SEO work.

Let the lions eat the other 10 competitors.  Simply put on your running shoes.
